“Sometimes what comes out expresses how I’m feeling such as anxiety or depression.”
Name: Taramarie Mitravich
Art Materials: Sharpie pen, pencil, and sometimes watercolor.
Where does your inspiration come from?
I thrive on horror movies and horror art, the style is comforting to me and very enjoyable. I love watching horror movies and drawing all the time, its like my diary. I am also a HUGE fan of Tim Burton, Marilyn Manson, and Stephen Gammell. To me they are incredibly talented, intelligent, and creative beyond belief. I can only aspire to be like them.
Tell us about your creative process.
I enjoy working on a smaller scan. I grab a sketchbook and just start drawing. I’m pretty disorganized so I keep sketches and paintings in boxes with no particular order or fashion. I keep my mediums simple because I love the aesthetic of black and white drawings on unclean/crinkled paper. It adds to emotion of the art. To me, it kills the enjoyment of drawing when things are too planned out or organized.
What is the story behind your artwork, if any?
I create my work by just touching my pen to my sketchbook. Sometimes what comes out expresses how I’m feeling such as anxiety or depression. I suffer greatly from both and art is the only outlet that helps me stay sane and happy for even an hour. If it weren’t for art, I don’t know how I’d get through anything. Mental health is an important subject for me, I believe it is just as important to take care of your mental health as your physical health. There is still a huge stigma on it and I would like to use my art to break that.
